I have a process led passion for materials and how they can be pushed to articulate elements of the natural world. I have dedicated my time to developing a body of work that integrates Newlyn’s strong copperwork heritage with my appreciation of the Penwithian coastline. Copperwork plants gesture towards the wider landscape and its seasonal changes. These are rooted within coil built, locally sourced stoneware bodies, which are Gorse smoked using Raku firing techniques to forge an integral link between the vessel, its contents and the process by which it was made. Making work that is in and of its place and that explores subjects such as balance, fragility, strength and movement. Clays and glazes that have been subject to the reduction firing process hold a deep fascination for me and I search for insight into this extraordinary, often unpredictable process.
